Christopher (Chris) Bass is Vice President, Tax and Customs at Volkswagen US-Holdings. In this role, he is responsible for managing and directing the US Tax and Customs functions across the US group, as well as the tax function of the Volkswagen Canada Group. He focuses on developing and implementing tax-planning opportunities to minimize cash taxes and the effective tax rate; managing federal, state, and Canadian compliance and audits; and overseeing and monitoring transfer pricing.
Chris has nearly 30 years of tax experience spanning the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, public accounting, and in-house corporate roles. He previously served as Vice President and General Tax Counsel for Epiroc North America, where he oversaw all North American tax matters, including tax provisions, M&A, transfer pricing, and planning. Earlier in his career, he held tax management positions at Ericsson Corporation and FedEx Corporation.
A native of Greensboro, Chris graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He earned his Juris Doctor from Duke University School of Law and an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He currently lives in Tysons Corner, Virginia.
