Rob ByrdOwner, Byrd Tax Consulting LLC
Rob is a recently retired partner from Grant Thornton, where he worked in their Federal Tax Practice. Prior to joining Grant Thornton in 2002, he was a partner at Arthur Andersen, where he started his public accounting career in 1979. In his almost 40 years of public accounting experience he served business entities of all types, both public and private, plus high net worth families. He also has extensive experience serving not for profit and private foundation clients. His work included consulting on tax issues connected with joint venture structuring, mergers and acquisitions, accounting methods, capital cost recovery, income tax provisions and compliance, and estate and gift tax matters. During his last several years before retirement, he was the leader of the firm’s Partnership Tax Services Business Line for the Mid-South market territory.
Rob has worked with clients in many different industries, with his most extensive experience being in the real estate, manufacturing, distribution, retail and service industries.
Education and Professional Memberships
Rob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting, specializing in taxation, from the University of Texas. He is a member of the AICPA and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Rob currently serves as the Corporate Secretary, and member of the Finance Committee of the United States Croquet Association. This level of involvement allows him to volunteer time in helping grow the sport of croquet, his favorite hobby, and where he is an active participant in Regional and National Championship tournaments. He also continues to serve as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Foundation of Western N. C., and Chairman of the Charlotte Kiwanis Foundation. Rob has previously served on the Boards of Directors of the Charlotte Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte Region of Hospice & Palliative Care, and the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.
