Professor Michelle Hanlon testifies for Senate Finance Committee

On March 16, UNC Tax Center academic fellow Michelle Hanlon (MIT) testified for the Senate Finance Committee’s hearing “Made in America: Effect of the U.S. Tax Code on Domestic Manufacturing.”  Professor Hanlon expressed her belief that the “U.S. now has a competitive domestic corporate income tax rate” thus opposing the likely Biden administration proposal to increase it above the current 21%.  In addition, Professor Hanlon echoed sentiments she, UNC Tax Center Research Director Jeff Hoopes, and many other accounting academics share regarding the wisdom of taxing financial statement income.  The UNC Tax Center and the Tax Policy Center will explore this and other corporate tax policy matters in its upcoming event on June 9, 2021.  Please join this free webcast and learn what academics, policymakers, and practitioners are saying about the future of the corporate tax.
